My Story

How a Side Hustler in Mogadishu Built an Email Marketing Resource for the World

I grew up in Mogadishu, Somalia, and like a lot of people here, I was looking for a way to build income that didn’t depend on a single employer or a single location. I wanted something I could grow from my laptop, on my own schedule.

I tried a lot of things before email marketing. Dropshipping, freelancing on Fiverr, posting on social media — I gave them all a real shot. But nothing clicked until I stumbled across a video about email lists and the idea that you could own your audience, not just rent it from an algorithm.

That was the turning point. I spent the next year going deep: signing up for every free trial, reading every guide, watching every tutorial. I tested GetResponse, Systeme.io, ConvertKit, MailerLite, and Mailchimp. I wrote welcome sequences that nobody opened. I built lead magnets that flopped. I made expensive mistakes and learned from every single one.

What I found was that most of the content online was either too technical, too expensive to implement, or written for people who already had a big audience. There was almost nothing for someone like me — a beginner with limited time, limited budget, and a real desire to build something honest.

So I built AbdiGrowthTools. Not as a guru. Not as someone who made millions. But as someone who spent a year in the trenches, figured out what actually works for beginners, and wants to share it clearly and honestly. If you’re a side hustler trying to start or grow your email list, this site is for you.

  • I only recommend tools I’ve personally used or deeply tested — no paid placements.
  • I write for beginners who have very little time and no technical background.
  • I’m always honest about pros, cons, and who each tool is really for.
